Kentucky Mr. Basketball 2010s

We're getting into a grey area here as none of these players have finished college yet so they still have a legacy to fill. Also for fun I'll go ahead and give a prediction for Kentucky Mr. Basketball in 2013.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2010: Elisha Justice (Shelby Valley)

Justice led his Shelby Valley High School team against powerhouse Ballard High School. This story line has happened twice before, Ballard versus a small Eastern Kentucky school. Ballard played Clay County and their super star Guard Richie Farmer twice losing in 1987 and getting revenge in 1988 spoiling Farmer's senior year. Back to Justice's senior year, Justice scored 17 points and had 3 assist, he broke Ballard's press with ease and led Shelby Valley to their first state title. More importantly to some though is the win by Shelby Valley gave Eastern KY a decided advantage against Ballard in state title games. Justice would accept a preferred walk-on spot at the University of Louisville. He proved very valuable his freshman year backing up Peyton Siva at point guard and averaging 10.1 minutes per game. His sophomore year wasn't as fruitful, with the emergence of Russ Smith, Justice only saw on average 4.9 minutes per game. Justice decided to transfer to the University of Pikeville after this past year to be closer to his ailing grandparents. Justice will be a junior and have 2 years of eligibility left.

As an interesting side-note Justice has also received notability within the Louisville community after receiving the 2011 Hottest Male Athlete of the Year award from TheSportsF*g.com. His victory was in large part due to "support" from UofL blog Card Chronicle.

2011: Anthony Hickey (Christian County

Hickey was a largely unknown player before leading his Christian County team to a state title and winning Kentucky's Mr. Basketball award in the process. He picked up interest from Western Kentucky, Louisville Arkansas, Butler, etc. before committing to Trent Johnson and LSU. As a freshman Hickey was one of the top point guards in the SEC averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Hickey will return to LSU for his sophomore year os one of the top guards in the SEC and will look to have a breakout year for the Tigers.

2012: Nathan Dieudonne (Trinity)

Dieudonne is the third Mr. Basketball to have led his school to its first ever state title. He did this all while averaging 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.3 assists per game leading Trinity to a 35-3 record. Trinity only lost once to an in-state team a 77-78 loss to Madison Central. Dieudonne will take his talents to the northeast and play for Boston University next year.

2013: Derek Willis (Bullitt East)

My prediction for 2013 was ultimately pretty simple, you're talking about the best player on the likely number one team in the state. Also, Willis is nationally known, currently committed and very versatile. He's a guy who could average a double-double and probably 3-4 assists with a couple steals. If Willis were to win it'b be Bullitt East's first Mr. Basketball and he could also lead Bullitt East to their first state title.

Other's to watch:

Dominique Hawkins (Madison Central)

Darryl Hicks (Trinity)

LaVonne Holland (Ballard)

Demetrius McReynolds (Butler)

Jack Whitman (Lexington Catholic)

Omar Prewitt (Montgomery County)

Taylor Gover (Pulaski County)

Dez Marshall (Collins)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The three Kentucky Mr. Basketball all were great high school players and all have very promising careers ahead.
